Avant-Youth Republishing Guidelines

Avant-Youth’s mission is to inform, entertain and engage our fellow young Georgians. So you’re welcome to republish our stuff for free (articles, graphics, etc.), using the following rules of respect. And do let us know if you republish our stuff–it makes us happy!

Here’s what you gotta do:

1. You must give us credit, ideally in this format: “by Awesome Author, Avant-Youth.”

2. If you publish online, you must include the links from the story, and a link to https://www.avantyouth.com/.

3. You can’t edit our stories, except to reflect relative changes in time, location and super rudimentary editorial style.

4. If you make changes that are more significant than style tweaks—such as adding a comment from a local official—you need to add a note like this: “Additional reporting by the Rosebud Reporter.”

5. You can publish our photos and graphics with the stories with which they originally appeared. For any other uses, you must seek permission from our production head: video@avantyouth.com

6. When possible, include the following: “Avant-Youth is a multimedia organization that informs and engages ATLiens about citywide matters that may directly or indirectly affect them.”

7. If you share the story on social media, please mention us on our various handles: TwitterInstagramFacebookSnapchat (@avantyouth), Pinterest and LinkedIn. (We’re everywhere, we know).

8. Do not sell or syndicate our stories. It’s kind of rude.

9. Do not promote or sell ads against the story. Feel free, however, to publish it on a page surrounded by ads you’ve already sold.

10. You can only publish select stories individually—not as a collection.

11. Any web site our stories appear on must include a contact for your organization.

12. You must include a rel=canonical tag that points back to the original story on Avant-Youth. This tells the search engines that the story is from us. This is usually a setting in your Content Management System (CMS).
     – You can easily grab our URL for the story or copy and paste the story copy into your CMS (be sure to provide the proper link and attribution as stated above).

NOTE:
From time to time, Avant-Youth publishes content written by other newsrooms as part of exclusive partnerships. Stories written by third-party partners are not available for republishing, unlike regular Avant-Youth stories. For questions, email Alex, our Editor-at-Large at eal@avantyouth.com.

Multimedia Republishing Guidelines

We encourage you to republish our best online video content, photographs, images and multimedia packages–all we ask is that you follow these multimedia republishing guidelines:

1. You must give us credit, ideally in this format: “by Awesome Author, Avant-Youth.” For on-air use, please introduce video packages as “(Reporter) with our local youth reporting partner, Avant-Youth…”

2. If you publish online, you must include the links from the story, and a link to https://www.avantyouth.com/.

3. For multimedia, you can’t change video or audio packages in any way (including shortening) without receiving clear approval from Avant-Youth editors. In a squeeze? Email eal@avantyouth.com. If you’ve been given approval to shorten Avant-Youth’s content to run as an anchor voice over VOSOT, please provide a verbal or visual courtesy credit—verbal: i.e. “Our partners at Avant-Youth were there to cover XYZ.” For visual credit, include a courtesy: Avant-Youth logo on the video.

4. If you make changes that are more significant than style tweaks—such as adding a comment from a local official—you need to include a note like this: “Additional reporting by the Rosebud Reporter.”

5. You can publish our photos and graphics with the stories with which they originally appeared. For any other uses, you must seek permission from our production head, james@avantyouth.com, as we do not always have the copyrights to pass along.

6. When possible, include the following: “Avant-Youth is a nonpartisan multimedia organization that informs and engages young Georgians about matters that directly or indirectly affect them, including public policy, life, government and statewide issues.”

7. If you share the story on social media, please mention @avantyouth (Twitter and Facebook) and @theavantyouth (Instagram).

8. Don’t sell or syndicate the story.

9. Don’t sell ads against the story. Feel free, however, to publish it on a page surrounded by ads you’ve already sold.

10. If we send you a request to change or remove Avant-Youth content from your site or on-air, you must agree to do so immediately.
