Young Atlanta is much more than a Fashion Show

Seven years ago Charles Pabai started a company for anyone wanting to express themselves through art, design, music and fashion. Pabai named this company Young Atlanta, and the name is more fitting today than it was seven years ago.

The amount of Atlanta residents are increasing by the day, making Atlanta the new hub for media and music. New artists and designers are gaining success based on their uniqueness and originality, and that theme was on display at the 2019 Young Atlanta Fashion Show.

For its seventh consecutive year, Young Atlanta sold out all 600 tickets for its fashion show. Those who arrived an hour early to get good seats were surprised when they saw the line wrapped around the side of the building.

Each model was a graduate, whereas the designers were their professors, guiding and watching their students across the stage in their respective outfits. This year’s theme was Young Atlanta University. Out of 15 different professors, no set of clothes were the same. Every outfit was vibrant, abstract, colorful and some even broke gender boundaries.

The way the graduates walked let everyone know they did not come to play. Women strutted down the runway with a fierceness that would grab Tyra Banks’s attention. Each man that emerged heard the screams of women in the crowd: “Now that’s a man!”.

As the show concluded, Pabai grabbed the mic and spoke about what this night really meant to him and everyone who participated. He acknowledged that the models were amazing, but also praised the designers.

Young Atlanta represents youth ownership. Before the show started, numerous vendors had their clothes, hair products and even food on showcase. Companies like Paradox Supply Co., The Great Collection and Drip Apparel Clothing all advertised to people walking up that we are successful business owners creating our own path.

Jamar Fordham, CEO of Paradox Supply Co., said that Young Atlanta is important because of the exposure it gives. Although he might not get that much traffic to his website, Young Atlanta provides another medium for him to brand his company and connect and make sales. 

Young Atlanta isn’t just your average fashion show. Created by youth for youth, Young Atlanta serves to give people a place to grow, learn and channel their creativity. To all the models, designers, vendors and staff, the significance of Young Atlanta will last a lifetime.
